In recent years, there has been a remarkable rise in the research and development of new generation materials and technologies for photovoltaic devices and solar cells. Such technologies represent an environmental friendly and renewable solution for the constantly growing world energy demands, and their efficiency has greatly increased since their inventions. Herein, the progress achieved and the strategies to design highly efficient devices, as well as the issues to be resolved for this field to continue to prosper, will be examined. New materials and building strategies will be presented both for outdoor and indoor photovoltaic devices, where intensities and spectra of the light sources differ greatly from those the former, and also for solar cell, where the development of wearable devices, that can be integrated into an all-in-one system to power sensing and communication functionalities, will be presented. | |||
