Preserving the unique European Cultural Heritage (CH) is a challenging task which requires a multisciplinary approach involving conservators, art historians, archaeologists, architects, engineers, chemists, physicians, biologists, etc. and innovative solutions and materials. For this reasons the session devoted to Cultural Heritage is addressed to all operating in the fields of CH. The session will focus specifically on nanomaterials and nanotechnologies applied to the conservation, restoration and diagnostics of different artefacts and monuments. Nowadays, nanotechnology has become a widespread tool for producing advanced materials in the conservation field such as self-cleaning, deacidification, consolidation, protection etc. products. These materials can contribute to solve problems due to weathering processes involving CH. Moreover, analytical techniques, such as SERS based on nanostructured materials, allows for characterize CH original organics in paintings and works of art with the use of minimal sampling that is an important pre- requisite in the analysis of CH. The session on CH will illustrate the state-of-art research in the field. | |||
