Scientific and technological researches in the most advanced and pioneering field, among which nanotechnologies undoubtedly represents the par excellence example, require the availability of constantly more performing instrumentations, methods, and techniques. The costs related to the acquisition, maintaining, and routinely operation force scientists to leave the logic of “one instrumentation for one laboratory for one research group”. Conversely, they require the availability of shared research platforms and infrastructures which may represent scientific aggregation points not only at the scale of the single University or the single city, but at least at regional level, if not national. ATOM project aims at offering an advanced research regional infrastructure in Lazio which hosts state-of-the-art instrumentations for tomographic characterizations (in a broad sense) from the mesoscale to the nanometer and atomic scale. In this session, the leading view of ATOM project is presented, describing the different methodologies of tomographic, microscopic, and chemical-physical investigation involved in the new regional infrastructure. | |||
