Tissue engineering is the use of a combination of cells, engineering, and materials methods, and suitable biochemical and physicochemical factors to improve or repair biological tissues. It involves the use of a bioscaffold for the formation of new viable tissue for medical purposes. The promise of this biotechnology is founded on the potential and ability to regenerate and replace damaged tissues and organs. Nanotechnology plays a key role in the development of innovative materials tissue engineering allowing the incorporation of nanomaterials and systems able to improve cell proliferation, differentiation and organization. This open very perspective paving the way for regeneration and replacement of a variety of tissues and organs including bone, skin, heart, and even nervous system. In this Special Session a overview of most innovative approaches used in regenerative medicine will be presented. | |||
